We had eco friendly bogs when I wuz a lad in the late 1940's early '50's
'twas an outside closet, not a cupboard for those who must use American
definitions, 'twas a double header and we used old newspapers, no water
and the night soil man came and emptied it every so often, God knows
where to, strangely enough I don't remember it smelling that bad.
